Introduction
Introducing the Ava Fertility Tracker—a wearable medical device paired with a mobile app, accurately predicting five fertile days in the menstrual cycle, designed for those seeking conception. The app goes beyond predictions, offering valuable information and support along the way.

Previously conducted research led the Ava team to want to focus on giving users access to real-time information on the home screen. To encourage consistent nightly tracking and use of the app, we wanted to explore moving away from the previous pop-up information that disappeared upon clicking. Instead, we investigated displaying the wristband's gathered data directly on the home screen, promoting user engagement and ease of use.

User needs
I was curious about which real-time data would genuinely motivate our users to continue syncing and what existing features matter most to them. I created and conducted a survey that yielded 29 insightful responses. It was evident that the primary reason for users' return was to check their fertile window prediction.
These individuals, keen on conceiving, also showed interest in tracking physical and emotional cues to ensure adequate hormone levels. While knowing when their period arrives is essential, it intriguingly takes a backseat in their minds

Here are some focus quotes from my findings:

“ It’s important for us to have time to prepare and plan for our fertile time”

“ Recently I learned that tracking my emotions can tell my doctor and I secrets about my hormonal imbalance ”

“ My body cues are so subtle for ovulation — the only thing that really matters to me”

Designs
The first designs were ready after initial user testing and a few iterations with the dev team. Keeping my research results in mind, I placed significant emphasis on the fertile window prediction, making it the focal point of the app no matter where the user is in their cycle. Users now receive comprehensive information about their current status, as well as their upcoming fertile window, promoting better awareness and planning. The sync prompt remained prominently displayed to encourage regular tracking.
To foster greater user engagement, I introduced fun chips with emojis, enabling enjoyable self-tracking and empowering users to explore their unique cycles in-depth.

The team planned to assess these design changes based on quantitative data received from mixpanel as well as feedback from sales, stakeholders and of course, our users.
