These are my aims, intentions and policies as a designer.
Never assume, remember my own bias & prove myself wrong
It is so important to keep an open mind when designing, and not let ego get in the way. Leaning into questions, staying curious and being interested to prove myself wrong are ways I keep my ego chill.
Design for inclusivity
We're all different and that's the special sauce of life. Designing with inclusivity in mind and talking with a wide range of people keeps me sensitive to the vast range of human needs.
Keep it simple!
Do we really need this? What are we trying to solve here? How has this problem been solved in the past? Questions like this are important to ask when we're caught up in the swirls of a solution. If possible, a walk outside is nice to refresh the mind.
I am not an island
Repeat after me, I am not an island. Focus time is important, but Rome wasn't built by one person. I collaborate, ask questions, ask for help! I value my team members and love different perspectives.
People first
Above all, people first. The user knows, find the secrets, leave space for the silence in conversations when people are thinking. Team members are people you are spending a lot of time in your life with and the environments you create are important.
Allow the unknown
"I don't know yet, but I will find out" Embracing the place of not knowing is a powerful tool. Do not grasp at the first idea out of fear. Gather information, sleep on it, truly listen. I believe this is how amazing products, tools, services are created.
